SADIQ KHAN NEEDS TO HEAR YOUR VOICE

On 24th May the Mayor of London and the GLA will be reviewing Ealing Council’s controversial Perceval House plans, which the council narrowly approved in the face of overwhelming public opposition. They will then either approve or overturn the decision.

You can email the mayor and his deputy Jules Pipe expressing your opposition to this disastrous scheme and ask that they overturn Ealing Council’s controversial decision:

Message: Sadiq and Jules, Please listen to local people

As a partner with the developers, Ealing Council’s planning committee ignored over 2300 objections when it approved the highly controversial scheme to bulldoze the current council offices, and redevelop the Perceval house site with new council offices and 477 mostly private flats, including a 26 storey monolith, and only a handful of family homes or ones available to those on the housing list.

There are so many grounds for objecting to this scheme:

  • The 26-storey tower would be unacceptably high in a suburban location
  • It would dominate nearby Grade 1 listed buildings including the recently restored Pitzhanger Manor
  • The character of Ealing would be seriously harmed
  • The tower will take light from hundreds of homes
  • The proposal is mainly for one or two bedroomed flats, not suitable for families. As the development uses Council owned land, the London plan says that far more than the proposed 50% of the new homes should be affordable
  • There would be very little play space for families
  • Ealing Council no longer even needs the new offices it plans to build
  • There is no need for new shop units when Dickens Yard sites remain empty
  • High polluting construction traffic will be using residential streets for years
  • Demolishing Perceval House which is less than 40 years old is not sustainable environmentally

It’s also not too late to object to the scheme on Ealing Council’s website – click here. There are many reasons to object, listed below.

  • The 26-storey tower would be unacceptably high in a suburban location and sets a dangerous precedent for towers of similar height to be approved
  • There would be very little play space for families / lack of amenity space
  • Ealing Council no longer even needs the new offices it plans to build – so the plans are outdated
  • There is no need for new shop units when Dickens Yard sites remain empty
  • High polluting construction traffic will be using residential streets for years
  • Demolishing Perceval House which is less than 40 years old is not sustainable environmentally
