We’ve recently seen shocking new images and videos of the plans being proposed by John Lewis revealed in their evidence, which is being presented at next week’s Planning Inquiry.
To say these images are shocking, is putting it mildly. In fact, the only positive thing to say about the plans, (which one member of the public described as ‘looking like the prison block they’ve just put up on the A40’) is they somehow make the Manor Road 55 West tower look slim and delicate. What does that say about the sheer density and massing?
Please do watch this video to see how the scale and bulk of the tower blocks will dominate the predominately low rise two storey homes in Ealing.
UPDATE ON THE PUBLIC ENQUIRY
The Public Inquiry into John Lewis’s plans to redevelop its West Ealing Waitrose store with these massive tower blocks, starts at 10am on 19th November 2024. It’s being held in Perceval House.
Members of the public can come along and watch the proceedings. They can also have their say on a number of issues they don’t like about it.
STT has been advised to concentrate its efforts on the harm caused by Waitrose’s outrageously oversized development and how it will destroy West Ealing. So this is what our witnesses most heavily emphasise.
STT’s witnesses are – Simon Greaves (planning) and Paul Velluet (design and heritage).
If you would like to talk at the Planning Inquiry, you need to do the following:
Turn up at Perceval House on Tuesday 19th November at 10am. We’ve been told the morning will be when you can speak.
We appreciate a lot of you will be working! So if you want to have a say and can’t make it, perhaps ask someone you know who can to read out a statement on your behalf.
Please have what you want to say written down and be prepared to read it out.
It’s best to keep to single point issues – EG: you’re concerned about over shadowing, or the lack of open space, over crowding on the Elizabeth Line for example.
You are not speaking on behalf of STT. You are speaking as a member of the public.
This is the proposed programme:

These plans are against Ealing’s own local plan, which cost £millions in consultancy fees to prepare and widely consult on. If JLP gets its’ way, this money, time and effort will go to waste. Developers will see the Borough as easy prey for their insatiable appetites.
