Help STT fight this gross overdevelopment!
Thank you to everyone who has donated to our fundraising. We have so far managed to raise in the region of £20,000 and that figure is rising each day with the trickle of donations into our GoFundMe page and from cheques and bank transfers.
The Waitrose inquiry approaches fast so we need to turn that trickle into a flow so we are coming to you again with a plea for funds. We cannot do this without you!!
BIGGER THAN YOU THOUGHT?
The image above has been done to scale from the Luminosity building (in grey) on the left to the end of the main block (the main block is 250m wide) which gives you an idea of the size and density of the development if it goes ahead.
The image of houses in the nearby Draytons, is there to give you an idea of how big the Waitrose development will be in comparison to a typical two storey house in the area. This is not a small development you can hide behind trees. It will be seen if for miles – even as far afield as Windsor!
UPDATE ON THE APPEAL
The appeal starts on 19th November so get the date it in your diaries now. A well-attended public inquiry sends an important message to the Inspector that people really care about their neighbourhood, so please come along if you can. The venue has been confirmed as the Liz Cantell room in the Town Hall.
With the Council not bothering to come along and speak up for local people, the inquiry is going to last nowhere near as long as the 3 weeks originally scheduled. The best guess now is that it will likely sit from 19th to 22nd November and the spill over into one day the following week. We will update you on that as well.
STT continues to put together its case. Our Statement of Case has been submitted (despite the council only providing the paperwork at 5.30pm on the day it was supposed to be handed in – thankfully the inspector allowed an extension) and the two expert witnesses have now submitted their evidence on time and we, and they, are now wading through thousands of pages of justification from JLP – much of it of not much relevance to the inquiry. This has all been loaded onto a new page on the LBE planning website – you can find it here – https://pam.ealing.gov.uk/online-applications
STT has been advised to concentrate its efforts on the harm caused by Waitrose’s outrageously oversized development and how it will destroy West Ealing. So it is this that our witnesses most heavily emphasise.
However, Waitrose are claiming that the scheme will have lots of benefits that outweigh any harm that their giant towers will cause. We are putting together the full list, but they include things like creating new jobs, providing new amenity space and improving the public realm. Anyone from the public can come along to the inquiry to tell the inspector that Waitrose’s claims are wrong, so please think about joining your neighbours in doing so. Watch this space for further advice.
The professional advice we are getting to fight these plans is some of the best available. It is going to cost a lot, to protect West Ealing. So please do help us by donating as much as you can to our cause.
